It would be a shame for them to capitulate now because they'll have a job to recapture the momentum if and when the government or Brussels does the dirty on them.

For farmers, going on strike represents an enormous financial sacrifice and additional work for the family, not to mention the expense of going by tractor to Paris. Nothing to do with the striking industrial workers or the civil servants who negotiate each time (and often successfully) the return to work in exchange for payment for the strike days !
So, I understand that they are returning home after the announcements from Attal and Macron. But, as usual, these are only promises which will surely not be followed by actions... But be careful: if the farmers are betrayed once again, they could well get really angry and organize themselves better than this this time. And there is no shortage of short-term opportunities: Agricultural Show, European elections, Olympic Games...
Demain est le premier des jours qu'il nous reste à vivre: profitons-en ! :D

As the Fuel Protestors in the UK discovered in September 2000.

When they paused the protests the government immediately took steps to ensure any restart would be impossible.

The Olympics will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the unions to strongarm a settlement.

Not sure about the farmers, but RATP on the other hand . . .

Whilst agree that farmers have had a raw deal, all over Europe. I'm not at all happy with all of the rubbish which they have piled up all over.
Hope that they clear it up which they should be made to do and not leave it to local councils.
If they don't we all will have to pay in local tax rises.

Caught a bit of news on France24 TV last night. I had no idea but they are even kicking off in Brussels so this isn't just typical French farmers having a moan. Other countries are also involved.
Humanity landed on the moon over fifty years ago but it seems too much to ask for a reliable telephone/internet service in rural France.

Some questions in the local rag today over who is going to pay the estimated 400k cost of the clear up in Agen.

Irish farmers have now kicked off as well.

The issue is the EU rules and trade deals - so maybe more will be joining?
