Not really surprised, although Ireland made a bit of a meal of the match until the last quarter. The English always target key players and try to put them out of action. Yesterday's ref was (mostly) wise to the Albion's tactics, including the sneaky placing of the ball for a penalty.
However, England put on a really gutsy display. Remains to be seen whether they'll have the energy to face France next week!

can you give some evidence of this. I have watched every England game in the last 20 years and never saw evidence of them “targeting” one of the opposition. SA yes but not England. However I have seen England players targeted. Wilkinson and Rob Andrew by SA and Sinkler by Wales.
