WHAT IS THIS STUFF

#1 Post by Loup-garou »

Last night Herself went out and did some light watering of the patio plants - nothing out of the ordinary.

This morning this had appeared!

Is it animal, vegetable or mineral? Can't see any insect activity so I wondered if it's some kind of slime mold but that usually requires warm, wet conditions to thrive. Any thoughts/advice from the experts out there gratefully received. :?:

Could it be Crown Gall, although the color doesn't seem quite right ?

https://www.britannica.com/science/crown-gall

"The galls are at first cream-coloured or greenish and later turn brown or black. As the disease progresses, plants lose vigour and may eventually die."

I'd agree with that - apparently if you sprinkle corn flour over it it kills it off.

The weather's been a bit weird with the warmth and wetness, I've never seen so many different types of fungus, mushrooms and toadstools in the garden before, we've even got ceps which I haven't had in the garden before, it's a shame we don't like them.

Hummmn. Don't really know/remember - Herself is such a magpie for plants. It may or may not have white flowers she says; no sign currently (welcome to my world). Nothing around it has been affected and "The Stuff" is much the same today: if perhaps a tiny bit deeper in colouring. Not slimey, nothing higher up the plant and quite firm.

If the color continues to darken, I still suspect Crown Gall.
