Cochenille australienne/Icerya purchasi

We noticed these things had appeared on one of our mimosa yesterday. No idea how they got there but they thrive in warm humid conditions which we've had over the last few days. At first I thought they were bird droppings but was told by an connaisseur that they are a pest and live on the sap of mimosas. Best treated non-chemically with savon noir, vegetable oil and meths.
