I was amazed by the tearful press conference where Messi was pointing out that he wanted to stay but Barcelona weren’t allowed to pay him. The simple answer would be stay without being paid. It’s not as though he can’t afford it. David Beckham wasn’t paid when he himself played for PSG, he did some sort of deal with the tax office where if he was at PSG without a salary he wouldn’t have to declare his worldwide income in France.

Apparently, he couldn't do that because of FFP rules and La Liga. Truth is Barca over extended themselves and couldn't afford to pay his and others their inflated salaries. I suspect it may have been a bit of a setup between Messi and Barca to try and get La Liga to let them get away with even more flaunting of FFP.

Time will tell.

Answering Char's original question, it's the other way round for me as I'm back in the UK but still support Montpellier HSC (Montpellier is more of a Rugby town; MHSC only averages gates of about 14k). Like Wilbro I've travelled around & always supported my local teams: New Brighton (RIP), Tranmere, Liverpool (first & main love), BHA, Napoli, Bologna & Norwich.
