Agriculture since before Roman times is mostly to blame for the loss of Scotland's forests and woodlands and later, woodlands were cut down during the Highland Clearances to provide more grazing for sheep.

We used to go up to Glencoe to ski (when there was snow) at weekends - I remember once there was a gully that still had snow in June ...
