Let there be light...

If you want to let in a bit more light through the ceiling, there are actually quite a few nice examples out there. Every now and then, you might be invited to a festive gathering of a certain calibre and that’s when you discover yet another aspect of architecture. How do you bring daylight into a large reception hall that would otherwise be a rather gloomy space, with little natural light? Not the Marquee club, 90 Wardourstreet in London, the Who, the Stones or the KInks not present...

Very grand. However, back in the day (about 1985) I installed a solar tube to lighten up a dark corner in a bathroom. It worked totally without any electrical power and yet appeared to give as much light as a modern LED lamp. https://solatube.com/residential/tubular-skylights/

I suspect the little solar panel in the photo takes over.
~For a while.

I saw those solar tubes advertised about 15 years ago when I was updating my little hovel. Very expensive. I decided to beat a hole through a breeze block wall to install a window instead.

Now now AJM. Something in the name ”solar” should be a clue. It is useful when you can bring daylight from the roof, through 2 floors and to the cellar.
