I calculate our expenditure every Sunday morning by reading the Linky and multiplying by 0.20. That way I keep an eye on wasteful use and always, slightly, overestimate the next bill, so no nasty surprises. On our last bill in January it worked out at 0.18 per unit.

Fortunately we don't use any electric heating (it would be extremely uneconomical in our house).

If you've no 'leccy heating why do you need 9kw?

I have just built a new computer, with multiple monitors, multiple fans, powered speakers.

Along with that, I have twin LED lamps, the Internet Router and various USB chargers all on the same feed. I have just put a meter on the circuit and it pulls 320 watts.

I was very surprised - it is amazing how low powered devices are nowadays.

The standing charges are the same for 6kw and 9kw. As we heat water overnight when we turn the (oil) heating off and may run the dishwasher and washing machines at the same time (overnight), we don't have to worry about overloading the system.

Correction : The standing charges are more expensive for 9kw than 6kw but worth for us it as we never have to worry about overloading the system.

We're on 6Kw. I see the only difference is the annual abonnement - 9Kw is higher.

I was only curious & thought maybe you had a mega kilowatt electric melodeon

We have changed from 6 to 9 kw since the Linky was fitted as popular opinion had it they trip much closer to the paid for abonnement than the 'old school' meters & I couldn't be arsed to have to reset the trip, should it happen, even though I was relatively confident it wouldn't happen under our present regime
The extra cost is well worth the peace of mind even though I'm now spending even more dosh fashioning tin foil titfers.
