Price of Electricity

Having just received our EDF bill it looked quite high so I compared the prices for the same period last year with this one's.
This shows an increase of 26% on Heures Pleines and 21% on Heures Creuses.
I didn't expect it to be that much higher!
Nevertheless still a lot better than in the UK so I'm grateful for that.

Someone on this forum mentioned in another topic that you can see which appliances you are using, and can compare the cost with last year etc. It's very informative.

My problem was that despite having a Linky the bill I received was an estimate. I only noticed that because it was about half the historical average. The downside of that was the bill in February was one and a half times normal. My neighbour also had an estimate, phoned to ask why and was told that there had been an ‘issue’.

We have a a Linky so not estimated and the price increases I quoted are the per unit price increase.

@Blaze I
Gone down? Is that because of usage or, surely not, the unit price?

My point was that my December reading had been estimated despite me having a Linky.

I had an estimate for a bill last summer and, being the pessimist that I am, I called the electricity people in case the meter was broken. Apparently they take readings on the same day every month. If there's a technical problem of some sort they don't try again the following day, they just estimate it on your previous years usage in that month.

January 2022 prix kWh 0.0974
January 2023 prix kWh 0.1374

We've had several cheque d'energie over the last 12 months so in all we've paid a lot less this year than normal years.

Usage. We don't have electric heating but are careful to use heures creuses when possible, nothing left on stand-by (yes, cooker stays plugged in), gas hob, and led lights which are always off when not necessary.
We've just discovered by chance that our heures creuses hours have changed ....
