Well, on a "standard" tariff, from my last UK invoice:

Unit Rate 48.93p/kWh

Standing Charge 40.01p/day (£146.05/year)

Then it is reduced by the Energy Price guarantee to 32.36p/kWh

Crikey .. that is expensive. We have been well protected in France from such high charges.

As have some in the UK, depending on our choices - luckily I chose to go with Octopus on a 2 year fixed rate:

19.11p/kWh and the standing charge is 22.96p per day (£83.80 per year)

Not looking forward to September when our fixed rate ends, but Octopus prices generally work out well, I find, and they are the best company again this year according to Which?

I feel very sorry for those who have pre-payment meters.

The UK rates depend on how you pay (direct debit/prepayment/etc) and the region you are in as well as your supplier and any fixed term rate, so it is complicated! As an indication, this page gives the Energy Price Cap and Energy Price Guarantee unit rates & standing charges
It is currently forecast the price cap rate will go down 5% on 1 October (having gone down 17% on 1July) but go up 2% again on 1 Jan. In the case of my UK supplier, there seem to be more significant moves in the standing charge rather than the cost of electricity itself within the price cap.

France has announced the bouclier tarifaire sur les prix de l'électricité, which has kept the electricity price much lower in France than other EU countries (by a very large subsidy) will be removed at the end of 2024. See the graph on this page https://tecsol.blogs.com/mon_weblog/202 ... 3%BBt.html

There are predictions that as a result of the gradual removal of the bouclier tarifaire, after the 10% electricity price increase in France in Aug 2023, there will be further increases of 17% in Feb 2024, 17% in August 2024 and 17% in Jan 2025.

That sounds very high. I’m very luckily on a 2 year fixed rate which ends in September, so there’ll be a big jump then.

The current unit rate is 19.11p/kWh and the standing charge is 22.96p per day (£83.80 per year)
And yours seems very low by comparison.

UK rates vary slightly depending on the supplier and/or area so my granddaughter, 25 miles away, pays 28.07p kWh and 47.91p standing charge. These are the new capped rates from July 1st and the devil is in the standing charge. Fixed rate deals are now appearing at slightly lower rates.

Will Tempo prices increase by the same amount, ie 10% from 1 August?

Yes. I suppose it is possible they make separate adjustments to the two tariffs?

This 10% increase on August 1st is one more scam:
- EDF nuclear production cost: €49.5/MWh
- EDF must resell to TotalEnergie, Engie and other suppliers: €46.2/MWh (with a loss !)
- Engie bills me: €188/MWh, i.e. a markup of 4 !!!
All this because of ARENH (Regulated Access to Historical Nuclear Energy) and the Single Market for Electricity and Gas in Europe which means that I pay more for my nuclear electricity because Germany pays more for its gas !!!
Without these stupid regulations, the French could pay for their electricity half as much while leaving EDF a comfortable margin to invest in the nuclear power of the future and guarantee the energy independence that we had before the EU.
TotalEnergie, Engie and others produce nothing, do not install or repair the cables: what are they for ?
If our government thought about the welfare of its people, it would revert to the energy sovereignty we had 50 years ago.
Demain est le premier des jours qu'il nous reste à vivre: profitons-en ! :D

So it appears that wherever we choose to live, our governments are using smoke and mirrors to appear to be working for the peoples' best interests while really just looking after themselves and the commercial entities.
Humanity landed on the moon over fifty years ago but it seems too much to ask for a reliable telephone/internet service in rural France.

So it looks like they changed everything on 1st July and I now pay 32.49p per unit
