Toilet Seats - who knew

A straightforward job! Never!
Toilet seats all look pretty similar in their boxes. There is a key element to success.
Easy fit seats are fitted from the top down and generally rely on a plastic rawlplug fitting snugly into the porcelaine.
Ours is not easy fit as we found to our dismay after doing the 60k round trip to Casto to buy a new seat and an hour of trying to get it to fit.
After a bit of Googling (yes I should have done this first) I discover the other fitting type from underneath the porcelaine is what we needed.
Back to Casto who refunded without question. We found a very helpful employee who got us the right fitting type. The only clue on the box is that it doesn’t say ‘easy fit’ ! 20 quid cheaper than our first effort.
Back home fitted in 15 mins.

Toilet seats are crap these days! 'Scuse the pun! They don't seem to last - even buying the fancy one that lowers itself slowly (I told Mr Bayleaf not to give in to gimiks!). The joins don't seem to last like they used to, and you can't repair them. Certainly doesn't seem to be a universal size/fitting either.

Sounding like my parents "they don't make anything like they used to", sigh!

And don't forget they're not one size fits all.
Measure your existing, hinge to front of pan + width before buying new'un.

Perhaps Mr Bayleaf had other ideas in readiness for his dotage?

Many years ago I bought a cheap toilet seat which stated "lifetime guarantee" on the box. I kept the receipt and the box, longing for the day when I could go back and have a discussion about a refund. Sadly, that day never came and the seat is, I assume, still being s(h)at upon in the house we left four years ago.
