Seems like Charlie has adopted us. He's still around & getting more confident.
Yesterday him & chancy our cat were nose to nose without fighting but still wary of each other.
Last night I left an external barn door ajar thinking Charlie might prefer to sleep there.
The barn has a door with cat flap that communicates with the scullery & early this morning Chancy's food bowl was empty.
I refilled it & went back to bedroom where Chancy was asleep at the bottom of the bed.
Later on Chancy was still asleep yet the food bowl was empty again showing that Charlie was used to using cat flaps so obviously domesticated.
We're now trying to work out at what stage we give him the run of the house.

We have found that even quite feral cats will quickly understand a cat flap - especially if they see another cat using one.

Of course, some are more clever than others and one of ours will just not push the flap with his head and rather hooks a claw behind the flap, pulls it towards him and then enters/exits.

This'un's deffo not feral, just a bit wary after having to fend for himself for a while, I'd imagine.
Sit on the terrace & he'll jump on your lap & rub himself all over you like he's missing human company. He's a big lad who could do some damage should he want but so far, despite all the manhandling, he's been nothing but gentle.

It certainly does not sound like it. Jumping on the lap is something that relatively few of ours do even if they have obviously been well used to handing before arriving chez nous. However the last two arrivals - end 2021 and end 2022 - are both nervous of any human and the first is now only slowly getting used to being close to us. Both however found nourishment and warmth in our converted Grange and then found their way to (even) better by entering the house via the cat flap. They have stayed and happily enter and exit via that route.

Cats, like dogs, take their time to get used to us. An adult cat arrived at a friend's house but refused to go in but stayed on their covered terrace. She put a little shelter out for it and it eventually adopted it, sleeping there for much of the time. It took about 5 years for it to realise that the house is actually rather nice, and sitting on a lap or sleeping on a chair is even better.
