I doubt it was the same one - this one seemed to come from near Valanjou

We heard our first cuckoo of the year this afternoon. The funny thing was, I'd remarked to OH this morning that we hadn't heard one this year ......

That's late Blaze! We have 3 around us, all well apart, going from early morning.

We've been hearing them non-stop for weeks now. Never lived in Cuckoo land before (well maybe when we were in the USA). Do both the males and females sing the cuckoo sound ?
And what do these birds actually look like? I did a quick search and the description seemed to be that they are black with an orange colored beak. But, so many birds have a similar description.

Here you go Lori ! Cuckoos make their sound while perched, but also in flight. They've probably been around here for a while, but it's the first time we've heard one this year.
