One-legged Robin

#1 Post by Veem »

For about a month now we've been seeing a one-legged robin around the bird table in the dog playpen in our garden. Other birds settle on the wire fencing, but Robin always lands on top of the fence posts. Presumably he feels safer balancing on his one foot on a flat surface and he does a fair bit of wing flapping to adjust his balance. Yesterday he flapped a bit too hard and toppled off, but was back minutes later. Of course we have no idea how Robin lost his leg and marvel at what a plucky little bird he is. I hope he survives.

I've noticed quite a lot of birds like standing on fence posts. I've also noticed that the various dragon flies like the bamboo canes !
It's amazing how birds and animals seem to be able to adapt to their disabilities.
