France in Focus

This morning I have seen a huge high flying flock of migratory pigeons flying north, 5 kites heading north.
Apparently grue are on the move going to Latvia I thought I heard some last night but decided I was dreaming it.
Is it a sign? Or are they all confused!

Temperatures here have been a good .6°C above the average so far this year and no sign of change in the next 2 weeks. Todays high is where I would expect on average the temperature to be in 10 days time. I would guess the birds are being driven by the temperatures and the accompanying availability of food.

Heard some Grues earlier this week they were East of us, In December we had about twenty of them flying South

Last week we had a huge flock of birds landing in the oak trees in one of our fields. OH said they looked like pigeons. I didn't know they migrated.

We have a flock of wood pigeons that stay all year but the palombes go south for the winter. They are already on their way back. Perhaps the dreadful weather in Portugal and Spain has sent them up early

30 or 40 grues flew over here yesterday

The common Wood Pigeon (pigeon ramier- stays with us all year round, as do the tourtourelles (collard doves). Same with various ducks and geese. We're not on the grue flight path so vey rarely see them.
The daw chorus is starting !
