Perfectly OK for a longish trip. As said they will just settle down and sleep for the majority of the journey. Even an airfreight crate is not much bigger.
In days of yore we transported 4 cats and 4 kittens in the car between the Southern bit of France and Germany on a regular basis.

@ Lori and Suein56, what you see is not always what you get. The cat gets more: Length×Width×Height = 45 cm x 31 cm x 30 cm.

@ Lori and Suein56, may I compliment you both on your keen eyesight. But I'm afraid my picture was an optical illusion. The explanation can be found in the car technology of 20 years ago, the invention of the split tailgate. Sit down and put on your walking (or dancing) shoes and then flip up the lower half.
