With 2 dogs and 4 cats we have a lot of pet hair. We could have another baby animal by the end of the day.

I vacuum the open plan lounge, kitchen, diner every day to try and keep on top of it, unsuccessfully.

But, the main problem is hair on clothes and bedding and furniture.

The dogs are brushed every day but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Sherlock doesn't like being brushed but he doesn't seem to shed a lot of hair and Sykes loves a brushing.

Hair on clothes? Live with it, don't wear dark clothes which show the hairs or Sellotape. Go over the hair covered clean clothing with Sellotape sticky side down and the hairs stick to the tape.

In the main we live with it.

If Sherlock and Sykes enjoy being on furniture, the bed and being cuddled by you, you'll just have to live with the hairs !
I can imagine them shedding as much hair as a couple of Border Collies, given their size.
You get used to it eventually ....

We find a dog hair every time we open a packet of butter, a packet of cereal, etc etc ..... and our dogs don't go upstairs or sleep on the furniture !!!

When he retired from guide dog work, our light-coloured golden retriever chose to sleep on the dark blue carpet next to the dark blue sofa which I sprawl on. There is plenty of choice of dog beds but when in the house, not chilling downstairs on the cool garage below that is where he lies.
We scrubble the fur in before hoovering in our trainers.
I don't wear black trousers, nor in winter my black velvety jacket.
We live scruffy - no choice, really!

With five border collies and stone and wooden floors we suffer from the hair tumbleweeds and mini whirlwinds big time. On rugs we do as Liz reports and use the sole of our feet to roll the hair into clumps.

You can get Dyson (other makes are available) pet attachments now which you use directly as a grooming tool. Not an endorsement as I haven't tried them. I did buy one of the first type which were only to remove pet hair from soft furniture NOT the animals. It was just like a mini hoover with a double spiral brush and beater bar and made a constant high whirr. Well nobody made the "not for pets" bit clear to me and the poor dogs accepted this frightening device being passed over them with their eyes out like organ stops.

We use a tool called a furminator (several variations are available), ours is orange and black and it does a good job of pulling loose hair out - but, within a very short time ....................... !

We only have a cat now. He looks like a short-haired tabby, but by the amount of hair he leaves behind him he could be a yak with rampant alopecia. He's not allowed near beds occupied by humans so give the kitchen/véranda furniture a good fur lining at night.
Am I bovvered? Hardly. I've had cats and dogs all my life and they shed. I have a cupboard full of combs and brushes from our dog era, but there's only so much you can pick up.

@Loup-garou Ditto here with you and Liz re rolling hair into clumps with our feet.
We also use a Furminator which certainly does get the loose hair out .... for a short time. Ours is yellow and black but we've had it for a long time.
It doesn't bother us, it's all part of having dogs and cats. The best thing for having a quick whizz round to collect tumbleweed on hard floors is the thing hairdressers use. I bought the rubber end bit in somewhere like Super U. I don't find it as good as my foot on mats or rugs.

Anyone tried hair spray (aka hair lacquer)?

I also use the foot sweep method on rugs, which works well.
This morning I used a rubber washing up glove on furniture, this also worked well. Our dogs are not allowed on the fabric couch but still a ton of hair brushed off.

I've seen a rubber star shaped thing designed to go in the washing machine, to collect hair. I wonder if this gadget works?
