As I drove out of the drive and down the lane I glanced in to my rear view mirror to see that lovely soft head with those big floppy ears, looking out of the back window at the gates, did she know she would not see them again. Decision time came on Monday afternoon our dear friend and companion of 11 years was in a bad way, she damaged her spine about 2 years ago after falling in the garden, chasing a cat, albeit she did get her mobility back and was able, admittedly a bit wobbly at times, to get about and perform her toilet requirements, but had been getting progressively worse of late. So the time came and went, she is now at peace and rests in the garden under her favourite tree, where she spent hours lapping up the sun. We have vowed never again, she was our eighth Doberman, would never have another breed, so gentle and loving, she will be so sadly missed.

My heart breaks for you. Tears in eyes.
I still cannot bring myself to have another dog. The pain of losing them is too much.
Keep all those wonderful memories.

Yes, hold those good memories and remember the wonderful life you provided for the dog.

It's dreadful losing a dog - we lost both of ours last year. It's nice if you can have them with you in the garden - I talk to ours when I pass ...
But the house is lifeless without them ... there will definitely be the patter of tiny (or big) feet at some stage, just waiting until the right moment.

There's no easy way to deal with the loss of a pet, especially a dog - I kept hearing mine behind me in the house for several weeks after I'd had him put down.
It's a big chunk out of your life, but as others have said, remember the good times with pleasure.

So sorry to hear your news. I still talk to Freddy and Dooley both of whose ashes are in the garden here.
I’m afraid I only lasted 2 months between Freddy and Raffi and have no regrets (well most of the time).

Unquestioning loyalty, companionship, and trust.
My dogs gave all that and more.
If only my ex wives could have managed it.
