Did you over- or underpay 2022 tax?

#1 Post by elsie »

According to an article in Les Echos, those who underpaid 2022 tax will have to pay the balance of the tax owing from September onwards (as a single payment if the amount owed is less than 300€ or in four instalments to the end of the 2023). They will be informed by their online tax notice between 26 July and 4 August or as a paper notice between 24 July and 22 August.

Those that overpaid will receive a refund on 24 July or 2 August.

Haven't a clue. We put the figures in, they tell us what to pay and we do.

Snap

Though I do seem to remember we had a rebate at some point, so I guess we overpaid.

I suspect we have overpaid a bit given that one source of income reduced during the course of last year. I am not planning a champagne party of the basis of that.

I overpaid. Got in a muddle last year so adjusted my quarterly prélèvement up. I hadn’t needed to so I’ll get quite a bit back. Hope they don’t fine me.

As with past years there is quite a lot of correction and surprisingly high figures. 9.6 million tax households underpaid nearly 21.7 billion euros of income tax - average of 2,259 euros per household. More than 15 million households overpaid a total of 13 billion euro which gives an average repayment of 844 euros per household.

I know the income figure they use for the prélèvement from the previous year's tax calculation is only going to be an estimate and I don't necessarily know about changes to pension payments, dividends, interest, etc and also the impact of exchange rate on my income from the UK. So I usually do make a prélèvement adjustment to get it nearer to the likely final figure when I can. But in all but one of the recent years I've had to make additional payments and only once had a refund.

I underpaid but have budgeted for the payments. I am also waiting to see if they have activated my claim concerning social charges.

We've had one tax credit for our femme de ménage but nothing yet for charity donations. No avis yet.

Thanks for that. I've just looked at ours a and it is a complete cock-up. I wish my income was that high.
