Average exchange rate £-€ for 2023?

#1 Post by Liz »

Ok so we are supposed to use the exact rate on the day income is recieved, but....
The amount I need to declare received in £s is not much, so the average rate will 'do' if anyone has seen it mentioned anywhere

There are a number of ways that seem to be acceptable. I tend to use the average that is published by the Banque de France. The number I’ve seen for this year is 1.139.

Just checked with https://www.ecb.europa.eu/stats/policy_ ... te=0.85635 which is my go-to site.
And the average from 2 jan 2023 @ 1.1283 to 29 dec 2023 @ 1.1507 .. was 1.1395 using the days the ECB was working.
So that tallies very closely with your B de France at 1.139 Dominic.

The BH Assurance newsletter (Isabelle Want) says the rate to use is 1,15.

What I have just read on their website is very slightly different - I agree with her thoughts
"The exchange rate for 2023 is 1.15 (that is the average of last year). Your local tax office can give you an exchange rate, but you don’t have to use it. Use it if it is lower than 1.15!!"

And any number of other credible sources will have other ideas. Even different tax offices will have a different answer.
Like every other year.
