Does anyone take a drug to reduce cholesterol other than a statin?
I've read up about Ezetimbe on the NHS website, and wondered if it would be better for me as I am suffering aches/pains/insomnia since starting the statin.
Heart attack was 4 August, balloon angioplasty and an armful of drugs to prevent another HA.

OH has recently started on Ezetimbe as he has history with statins .. he is allergic to all kinds of things including some medicines .
Ezetimbe works well but, apparently, it works even better in conjunction with a statin.
There are lots of statins .. just ask to try a different one until you hopefully find one that suits you.

Thanks Sue. I have seen my MT to ask her if I could change statins but she told me to reduce the 10 mg dose to 5 mg, which I have, and even down to 2.5 mg and I still have the same side effects. My cardio appointment is not until 23 October so I was hoping to find an answer before then

OH had another op in August .. his list of medicines grows ever longer .. and sometimes one is added he reacts badly to. Latest is a tablet to lower blood pressure .. he felt dizzy a few times after taking it and then had a nasty fall. So he's stopped taking it.
Sometimes your own body knows best.

I've been taking statins for years, but I've only recently suffered from bad joint pains (even in my fingers). Daughter took me off statins for 10 days. No noticable difference. Now the dose of anti-trremor drug (apparently another culprit) has been reduced, with a little effect but not much. I await the next advice tomorrow. Maybe she'll take me off them altogether, pending a rdv with the neurologist, and I'll return to being an Olympic mover and shaker. Maybe it's just age...

MAD, my husband is having adjustments of drugs such as Propranalol for his long-standing essential tremor; Atorvastatin he’s taken for many years has given him no problems.
I, on the other hand, was tried on a statin, can’t remember which one, which damaged my liver - thank goodness there were regular blood tests over the 6 months or so before and while on them, and was suddenly told to stop immediately. A few months later I had a liver scan, showing that it had recovered; I now take a herbal ‘statin’, my choice.

Thanks for that, Polly. I'll mention Atorvastatin to my daughter later. As an aside, Propranalol did nothing for me.

MOTM2, I looked at various herbal products and ended up taking Cholestsafe from Victoria Health:

It seems that the statin I've been taking for years is in fact Atorvastatin. Daugher says she's baffled by my symptoms (sweating, pain), so I feel another round of her colleagues coming on.
