Registering with a different doctor

#1 Post by manonthemoon2 »

Following my problems recently with my current Dr I have managed to find another Dr who sent me this message

"Bonsoir, oui, je prends encore des patients, qui n'ont pas de medecin traitant en ce moment."

I've made a RDV to see her next week, if nothing else but to sort out the UTI.

However I want to change Dr's although her message states she takes on patients who currently don't have a Dr. I do have an MT but I have reasons why I want to change, I just don't know how to explain it without slagging him off.

I know I'm lucky to have an MT already but I just can't accept his attitude. Because of my very complex medical health I need to have a Dr who is a bit sympathetic. I've heard the new Dr is very sympathetic.

I think the new Dr can speak English, should I list the failings of the Dr I don't like.

To be politic, I would suggest seeing how she responds to your current infection. If significantly different then you can raise the issue of changing MT since your current one does not seem to recognise your problems. It does not slag him off but equally says clearly why you wish to change.

As I understand, you don't have to give anyone a reason you wish to change your MT.
Just make a RDV and when you see her, ask if she will accept you as a patient. No explanation necessary.

I'm just worried she'll send me away as I already have a MT

I strongly doubt she will send you away. You have an rdv. She will see you and give an opinion and potentially an ordinance for medications. You will pay more because she is not your MT but the rdv stands. The question is whether she will take you on as your new MT and if you can show that your current MT is treating you very differently to how she would treat you, then I doubt she would reject your request to have her as your MT.

Even if she does, you can still use her (at a cost), provided you can access her rdv booking system - and that might be more to do with demand than any politics of whether she is your MT or not.

MOTM, as Exile says, you have a rdv, so she’ll see you and you’ll pay the non-patient fee - hopefully coming away with a prescription and a new MT.

This MT sounds just what you need, someone sympathetic who understands your health problems. Fingers crossed!

IMO, you don't really have an MT as the one assigned to you is not treating you. That, to me, equates to not having an MT. To be left suffering is seriously wrong.

Quite so .. your current Dr is not doing his job. You will be much better served swapping to this new Dr if she treats your problem correctly.
I would have complained about your current Dr in your situation. UTIs need treating swiftly and correctly.

Whatever you do, take your blood test results with you - as I recall your doctor said you didn't have an infection.
A (not so little) anecdote: 18 months ago, my younger son's MT said he had a throat virus. He gave the blood test results to his sister to read. She had him admitted to hospital as an emergency as he had a raging (and dangerous) throat infection.

Finding a doctor that suits you can be a lottery, just like with notaires. I have been very lucky twice with doctors and unlucky with useless notaires twice.
Wishing you well at your RDV.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.
