After having this i assume I will no longer be able to drive?
Silly question really but if i can put it off a bit longer I will try.

I think only your ophthalmic surgeon can answer that question*.

I would have thought however that the longer you leave it, the more likely that you should not be driving anyway and the greater the likelihood that your vision could be permanently impaired.

- and probably couched in medical uncertainty - "The chance are, that....." or "We mostly find that..."

The Opthalmo said they try to wait until it reaches Stage 3 as it is painful and you lose peripheral vision.

I am between 2 - 3 so he will see me again in 6 months.

My daughter in UK does the grading for the NHS, and says it's ok to drive as central vision is not touched.

I just wondered if anyone has had it done?

56 years of diabetes has finally taken its toll

I had lots of laser sessions years ago to remove "debris" from my eyes before my (then) opthalmo called a halt. I stopped driving 2 years ago, when I'd reached the legal limity and my children confiscated my car.
Bit of a shock as OH hadn't driven for 50+ years.
