I'm not a strong smelly cheese fan and dislike blue cheeses (yes, I've tried many ....). I avoid creamy cheeses but love most "hard" cheeses - there's such a choice in France and even if a lot of them seem similar, there are subtle differences.
I was surprised to find that Munster, which is extremely pungent, doesn't taste anything like its smell - it's much milder but one to eat with a glass of red wine.

I don't like Munster or Leerdammer, but I'm a big blue cheese fan. Apart from Gorgonzola, I love Roquefort and I even like Stilton - white, not blue.

A cheese I once made a huge mistake with was Tilsiter when I cooked with it. The smell and the taste were quite horrible - it was like eating dog sh*t
Yet it's pretty inoffensive when uncooked ...

I wish you hadn't planted that thought in my head.

Our fromager sells a creamy vey soft Gorgonzola that comes in a large, wooden drum. He spoons it out into a plastic pot. He calls it Gorgonzola à la cuillère It is delicious and I buy it every week.

just moving away for a moment from cheese - sat next to someone in the restaurant on Saturday who was eating andouille - the smell was disgusting and it wasn't only me that thought so as a member of a french party of 4 sitting the other side got up and opened the door
With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never be empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way into darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine.........The Corpse Bride

@L Austin France well it certainly smells like all the farmyard rolled into one and served with frites
