Just bought a bottle of Cardhu single malt. I have always thought that it was good for you but was surprised to see,on the box,not a health warning but " informations nutritionelles" - brilliant!!

Popped into Lidl at Nerac yesterday to pick up a six pack of English Ale, part of their beer festival, and spied these 3 minitures for just over 6 euros - Never heard of Ben Bracken before but the Speyside single malt was delicious so looking forward to trying the Highland and Peated and Smoky. Nice to know it's good for me

Went to our local Lidl in La Reole to pick up another box today and found this box of 12 bottles, two of each of some of my favourite beers, for 14.99 - The Brakespeares has gone already - may have to go back tomorrow

I've never heard of Ben Bracken either. Our SuperU sells a Glen Turner single malt (which I didn't know) for about €16. I asked some friends who live in Elgin if they knew it. They didn't and they were surprised that the distillery is in Elgin. They must be produced for the export market.

As a one time collector of single malts, there are lots of "Glen" this that and the other out there, some are from known distilleries, and some can be from anywhere in the world, I would allways check in the guide books if I didn't know the source. Some of them have unusual names and could be fairly rare, any one for a glass of " St Magdalene" the most expensive one I have ever bought.

I feel sure I briefly saw a bottle of that Cardhu on sale at 160€ somewhere or other, Grants does me, I mix with ginger wine so pointless spending loads on a fancy name.

Don't quote me on this, but I was recently told that if you're gluten intolerant, you can drink Irish Whiskey, but not Scottish Whiskey. Having read up a little on this now, it appears that due to the distillery process, most Whiskeys are, in fact, gluten free.
