Just cooked what recipe called an Apple Tart.
Its got no pastry so more like an apple pie
Tastes nice whatever & probably even better with a dollop of ice cream.

A favourite of mine, just warmed with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top. :D

Mrs PE makes apple tarts regulary using apples from our Brambly tree. Bramblys are soooo good in her cooking.

Just froze a batch of apple pies, pastry top and bottom, own apples, some raisins and five spice, twelve of them, some had some of our blackberries in as well.

The only apple trees that produced any worthy fruit this year were our Canada Grise/Reinette Grise. The few windfalls are tidied up by deer at night, pony and donkey by day. They are big fruits, quite tart - and if you attempt to eat a slightly unripe one, they'll suck your eyes balls into your head!

But, they're now finally sugary enough to eat (as the hornets have suddenly discovered), and make great dessert apples. I cheat and make apple compôte and crumble buttery biscuits on top - makes a kind of deconstructed individual Apple Crumble. My topping of choice is Créme Fraiche, as the slightly cheesy hint (IMO) marries perfectly with the apple.

It all sounds so good. We did get a fair amount of apples from one of our trees. Not sure what variety it is. I made a really good apple tarte, a couple of apple and pear tartes (Pear trees provided more than we could eat) and some compote. Froze quite a bit.

I also like to add some spices, raisins, cranberries and pecans to the tartes.
