What a character she was! Only just discovered this amazing lady, as there's a TV programme currently being aired, using some of her recipes as part of the competition. One clip she exclaims "Chicken in white wine!" in such a way, it cracks us up each time!

Looks like she was a big character in France too - living in Paris, and the Provence among other places.

I heard of her when I watched the film Julie and Julia (with Meryl Streep - who reproduced the Julia Child manner of speaking to a T) on TV about 10 or so years ago.
I went on to look up J Child and read about her life.
She was one redoubtable lady who adored French food.

She was an amazing person, who lived an incredible life. Love her recipes. And the show is funny even today.

Very funny and clearly fond of opening bottles.

When we lived in the US she was a must watch, great character and cook/chef.

She was on PBS which was always a plus for us.

She looks/sounds slightly tipsy in her videos, so perhaps the bottle was already open! Maybe that gave Keith Floyd his inspiration - a little wine while cooking helps with your artistic flow, a little too much (yep, been there!), and you have no idea what you're serving up, and frankly you don't care!

Some may remember Mireille Johnston....I think this is the first episode broadcast on BBC2 in 1992. Can't say I remember watching them, but I had a couple of her books. I think most episodes are available on YouTube.

Anyone remember elf like "Sophie Gregson" had a couple of her books, she has changed, the first time I saw the advert, I could not believe it was her. Floyd was always our favourite chef, have a few of his books, also liked "The galloping gourmet" and the great "Fanny & Johnny" they don't make them like that anymore.
