I assume you are resident in the UK then as you should not renew your driving licence with the DVLA if you are resident in France. Can’t tell from your author info.

Was this your first French licence after exchanging a UK licence ? If so then I was given a 5 year card licence first time round. On renewal 5 years later I was given a 15 year card.
Good thinking batman. 8-) But it still needs renewing tout de suite

My post of yesterday about "Getting one" which was valid for 15 years was my first french licence. Maybe there was a rule change between my and suein56's applications. I think Char's rational is the most likely but we await rabbit's clarification.

OK I went to the Gendarmerie this am to get their opinion. My license front says issued 2016 and expires 2021.The back has motos and car with an infinite expiry. HGV and caravan has an expiry of 2017.
The gendarmes (there were 4 of them!) said the 4.b expiry refers to Lorries and caravans and the important item is the reverse with the car icon and the « infinity » expiry. He said my licence will expire in 2031. Though i understand there will be a mass changeover in 2028.

I'm not sure I agree with them .. https://www.service-public.fr/particuli ... its/F31133
"La date de fin de validité du titre de conduite est indiquée au recto, à la ligne 4b."

Looking back I think I was restricted by the transfer of some of the categories of the UK licence .. I remember being told that I would need a medical at 5 years to continue those categories. I didn't want to, so new licence without those groups.

suein56, Sue that govt site also says Un titre de conduite au format "carte de crédit" délivré depuis 2013 est valable 15 ans. It is very confusing. The gendarmes were adamant

~While we're on the subject, I was just looking at my French license. It is a pink paper one, not a card. There's a row of symbols ranging from a motorcycle to a coach pulling a trailer. Some of them have a "depuis" year and some have a "jusqu'au" year. Five expired in 2013. All the rest show no expiry date. Seven of them show 70 RU in the Restrictions column.
Anyone know when I am supposed to renew, and which ones??

One of many things that totally befuddle me about French paperwork.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

I can't remember what the 70RU is but it has nothing to do with expiry. Identifies you as "etranger" I think.

you've exchanged a foreign licence and RU is the country of origin of the original licence in this case ROYAUME-UNI
