Ghost Signs

#1 Post by Oldblueraincoat »

I know rockfish has a liking for these old signs - They are slowly but surely disappearing and are badly fading. These are wonderful examples and must have been impressive when first painted.

I've always liked those old painted ads, so much nicer than the wooden panels the clutter the sides of the road. With street art becoming more popular (Boulogne has really embraced it apparently), it would be nice if some of these could be revived ...
Nice images, OBR !

I echo that. There really aren't many left, even fewer that are whole. Well done OBR.

One person has done much to preserve such signs and indeed the decrepitude of the buildings they sit on is Emmanuel Nouaillier. He has done this not through photographs, nor through preserving the real buildings but by making 1/87th scale models of the real buildings.

Examples of his work:

I really am in awe at his ability to reproduce these buildings and signs at the highest level of detail.

The work of Emmanuel Nouaillier is quite astonishing in its attention to detail and realism. Thank you for the link.

All you people put me to shame in not powering up the pc, sizing some of our thousands of photos and uploading.
Got lazy in my old age, just sitting here with my tablet in my hand.
Dont worry folks I only do it in the privacy of my home. :D
