Thank you for the link RA. They really are stunning photos. The Lake District is beautiful even if today there are areas that attract too many tourists - it must have been paradise during lockdown !

Been countless time to this neck of the woods but living on the correct side of the Pennines meant it was a fairly short drive. The old dear reminds me of our Yorkshire version, the late Hannah Hauxwell, who stared in a long running Tv series, she lived on till 91 same type of life, incredibly hard, some of the younger generation that bleat "no pun intended" when Mc Crap has run out of chips

should watch this type of program.

Thank you for sharing - it has taken me « home ».
I spent many holidays in the Lakes as it was an easy journey by bus or a rail runabout ticket (we didn’t have a car) from my parents’ house and visitors were always taken to experience the beauty of the Lake District. I used to love walking and staying in the youth hostels, but those were the days when it was far less commercialised.

Thank you, RobertArthur, just lovely. The photos took me back to my youth, when a friend and I used to thumb lifts to the Lake District to walk and stay in youth hostels several tines each year from about 1958, rather like Chappers p51, when it wasn’t as commercialised. My husband and I spent our honeymoon there, stayed at Glenridding by Ullswater.
We were very lucky to be given a voucher fir our 70th birthdays by my brother and dear sister-in-law to stay at Simon Rogan’s hotel in Cartmel and to have dinners at Rogan and Co. and at L’Eclume. L’Encume was a lovely experience that we speak of from time to time with great pleasure. Lovely food at the restaurant, with some surprising presentation and not at all snobby.
