There are some lovely doors in your post rockfish - but this photo in particular is interesting. 8-)

What was the building used for? As there appear to be grills on the doors.

Char, probably one of those places where it is easier to check in than to check out or leave..... Not Hotel California. And probably no music for the inmates.

It was a prison!

It is the Panoptic Prison in Autun currently being upgraded(?) for the expansion of the Rolin Museum. It was used in ww2 by the Nazis to hold members of the maquis. It is completely round with an excercise area on the roof with a wooden roof. Sadly it is only open occaisionally.

Thanks for that, it looks interesting. I love delving into the history of old buildings - I'll have a google to find out more, and add it to my 'places to visit' list. 8-)

Lovely doors the only door I ever that I took was in a village near the Château de Quéribus Aude
