No idea it was in the middle of a road in a small village.

Looking at the watchtower I see many in the vinyards around here (Bourgogne), I must stop and get the camera out next time I'm on the Route des Grand Crus.
Thank you Rockfish - I can recommend 'snapseed' by Google. It is free and full of wonderful effects - but only available on android and iPhone's. I transfer my camera pictures to the tablet using the Canon camera connect app. or direct on the iphone, then edit them with Snapseed - Give it a try using the various tools particularly HDR Scape and please let's see the results when you've cracked it 😊😊😊

Fabulous photos OBR - they really come alive.

I've used Nik in the past when it was free from Google but it's no longer available from Google and my old one won't transfer to my updated Mac.
HDR does wonders for old buildings and Snapseed has some wonderful enhancing effects. I'll have a close look ..

Interesting buildings (I like the moulin).
What are the markings on the front of the lock keeper's house ? Water depths ?

And yet, from the marks if I have read them correctly, flooding has been far far worse (as in about 2.5m worse) in the past - not that I am trying to be a climate change denier.
