Prince Harry's UK visit

Harry reconsiders bringing Meghan and children on UK trip
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4gy6ywg73wo
The Duke of Sussex is reconsidering plans to bring his wife and children to the UK next month after his request for police protection was rejected, the BBC understands..... no taxpayer funded security would be provided.

Well, why should it ? He has the wherewithall to provide his own, which apparently he will be doing. But he does seem to have an extremely puffed up image of himself, no doubt egged on by that scheming shrew of a wife.
From the BBC : "On previous visits, Prince Harry has declined the offer to stay at Buckingham Palace due to security concerns over using such a high-profile, visible building". What on earth does he think might happen ? Does he consider himself to be more of a target than other, working members of the Royal Family ??
BBC wrote:Prince Harry told the BBC following the ruling of his desire for "reconciliation" with the Royal Family. He also said he worried it would not be safe to bring his wife and children back to the country of his birth.
Paranoid or what ?

Well in the midst of all of you republicans, my views may not be well received.

I am not a great fan of the Royals but consider them as a slightly better bet than an elected president.

Let's start with paranoid - yes quite probably he is a bit paranoid. Given what happened to his mother while he was still a child, I think you might understan why he is a bit paranoid.

Does he consider himself more of a target than the working royals - yes. Put simply, the working royals do get protection. If he does not get protection then he is more of a target for those who seek spectacular advertising for their often misplaced causes.

He could provide his own protection but a few questions raise their head:
Would his team be permitted to carry arms in the UK?
Would his team be briefed by UK anti-terrorism on specific potential threats?
Would his team be able to take pre-emptive action against a potential threat?
Would his team be allowed to create cordons sanitaires?

I strongly suspect that the answer to all of those questions would be either no, or we need to think about that.

Given the proximity of the planned visit, time to think about it is a luxury that would prevent his team from doing their own planning.

Count me out ! At least with our Royals you have some idea what you are getting and they don't meddle with government. An elected president is quite another matter.

As to the points you raise, I hardly think he'd be coming over with his own protection force without having some sort of liaison with Home Office security services. I think they might have already considered of these issues !

What happened to his mother was not down to terrorism or a personal attack. A drunk chauffeur and being hounded by the press are hardly the same thing.

What happened to Diana could indeed be seen (in part at least) due to personal attacks by the paparazzi into her personal space - which was possible because of the lack of personal protection.

And lack of seat belt which apparently would have given her an 80% chance of survival had she been wearing one.

The way he slagged off the rest of his family when he ran of to California I am surprised he will be allowed to return at all.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.
