I read, with interest, an article about an Audi car, stolen in Paris, and the fact that the owner was able to track it's whereabouts, he alerted the police and when it came up to a motorway pay booth was able to remotely render it undriveable, by cutting the engine. That brought me back to a theory about the influx of all these Chinese SUV's, Chelsea tractors, call them what you like, that are now rivaling the likes of Jaguar Land Rover. They come in at entry levels for as little as £30K, whereas a similar spec Range Rover is streets ahead of that at close to £90K, hence, I believe, the impending demise of JLR. So this chap with the Audi is able to render his vehicle unusable from many miles away with, presumably a mobile phone. If we take that a step further, we have a nation of fanatical communists beavering away at making dirt cheap autos and supplying the rest of the world with fantastic value, in the car showroom, is there a sinister side to these bargain buys though. Could it be that Ping, or whatever his name is has an ulterior motive , could it be that inbuilt in to these vehicles is an integral kill switch which at the press of a button renders every last one of them stationary, imagine the chaos, its bad enough when there is a hold up at Dover, involving usable vehicles, let alone a massive amount of these Chinese built machines unable to move an inch. Even is that is a load of bunkum, it is still doing, what we have of a car industry left, a massive amount of damage, and the question there is are JLR just plain greedy on their profit margins or are these Chinese bargains being dumped on the world markets as a means of destroying a countries commerce, without the need to even contemplate the need for the use of an ICBM.

You never know, Patton maintained that we should have never stopped at Berlin, but kept going till Moscow. Now we have that arse in the White House, cow tailing to Ping, does he think that those two cultures could ever mix together, only by one gaining power over the other. I think it's on the cards hopefully later than sooner.

The theoretical scenario with the remote control of these new high tech cars is very much a possibility, but not likely to be China doing it. It will either be the Russians or the bad guys doing it. Killing the car and then offering to be technicians taking it away to be repaired, once out of sight they switch it back on and it then disappears into the stolen car market. I will never understand how the manufacturers can stuff so much technology (that nobody really asks for) into new cars but seemingly find it impossible to prevent them being stolen easily. A teenager with the knack can apparently steal one in minutes without smashing windows or ripping out wires. Usually it gets onto a ferry before it is even reported missing.
