Crickey!!! I never knew it was that much. I've been here since 2003 and have never been asked to show my passport but have given copies of it for online submissions. As a pensioner, where is this money supposed to come from?
You say that the UK passport is accepted without question so does that mean that the Titre de Sejour means ...umm....little?

The TdS is proof of your permission to reside in France not an ID! It means a lot.

Blue / Burgundy passports and the EU was one of Boris's little porkies - Croatian (IIRC) passports are blue as well and many non-EU countries use Burgundy/Red.

When coming back from the UK which column do you queue in, if you have a UK passport, French residency and drive a French registered car ?

If you're on your own, the one with the booths on the left-hand side (assuming French registered car is LHD) - it is a PITA to lean across and up otherwise.

La Poste are quite happy with my French driving licence as ID - it seems to depend who's asking. I think many places like the idea of ID that has a photo and an address, so that is why some people are quite happy to accept your TdS as ID.
In 25 years, I've never carried my passport around with me from day to day, nor my TdS, just my driving licence. I only dig out the passport and TdS if I think I might be asked for them.

I have a variety of documents but I would NEVER carry my original passport in my bag as it's too valuable a document to lose. Which is why I carry a copy.
