Happy Pi day.

Today Pi Day, the International Day of Mathematics. It's celebrated on 14 March, due to the date's American shorthand 3/14.
Interesting article on BBC web site https://www.bbc.com/future/article/2024 ... e-universe.
Apparently with only 11 digits of π we can calculate the circumference of the Earth from its radius with an error of just a millimetre. :o

You never know when that might come in useful. :roll:
Humanity landed on the moon over fifty years ago but it seems too much to ask for a reliable telephone/internet service in rural France.

I'll never forget this little ditty from my schooldays ;
"Fiddle dee dum, fiddle dee dee , ring around the moon equals Pi x D (circumference of circle)
But if a hole you want repaired, use the formula Pi r squared" (area of circle)

More formula if interested;
volume of sphere = 4/3 Pi r3. surface area = 4 Pi r2

Very useful to help answer pub quiz questions such as:
Q1 How many four inch sausages can be laid end to end around the equator?

Q2 Pi is approximately given by the fraction 22/7. What is the next fraction using whole numbers for numerator and denominator that gives Pi to a more precise figure?
