Blaze, it was once used commercially, linking the Seine and the Loire, in between the Morvan. For many tourists the city of Auxerre is where the trip begins. Many little écluses and in the short season so every now and then a boat. Coffee making facilities and lifebuoys also available.

@ Blaze, very peaceful indeed and not a railway house: autumn leaves are falling down from a tree that was witness of the ups and downs of many families that have lived there:

We always try and get permission especially when it's within sight of the house/Chateau. When they are remote it's difficult to know who owns them but in all cases take care to follow existing tracks. They are happy, in the main, when they know we are photographers but l don't think would like too many randonneurs in their vine. The more prestigious Chateaux sometimes give guided tours combined with a tasting. Hereabouts in the Gironde there are annual Portes Ouvertes weekends for the various appelations - Graves, St Emilion, Fronsac, Medoc, Haut-Medoc, Sauternes, Barsac, Cadillac and Pessac Leognan all highly recommended.

I took this on my phone last night and you can just see a star left hand side (if you have a magnifying glass ) the lower dots of lights are my solar lamps hanging in the tree! I just thought it a beautiful evening sky with a bit of autumn thrown in of course!
