Heat pump?

#1 Post by rabbit »

We are on town gas. Our gas boiler is 17 years old and for eco as well as potential future supply issues I am thinking of changing to a heat pump. We have underfloor heating which we only use for about 2hrs a day and a wood burner. House is well insulated. Any thoughts?

As said on other posts we have an air/water PAC and very pleased with it, but it depends on your level of insulation, under the pipes its 100mm, then 150mm concrete or there about, then 150mm laine in the walls then 400mm blown laine in the roof, we have large windows but heat reflective St Gobain argon filled D/G units, we keep the temp at 23*C and it costs 155€ per month for an all electric house. We leave it on continuously Sept to Apr, then just the DHW. Insulation is always the deciding facture in these situations, I wish you well.

I have a 1960's bungalow some insulation a number of double glazed windows and use liquid propane gas for heating and cooking 70 euros a month The central heating system is years old and I never thought of changing it as it will take years to gain a profit, When you need it the electricity supply always fails so I use a generator to drive the pump for a hour or so
Heat pumps are a good idea if you have constant electricity supply and you have access to a river pond or deep earth source the ability of multiplying latent heat is immense

Well so much for my attempt at going greener. I contacted Engie and asked them to quote for a heat pump to replace our gas chaudière. They said they can’t get them and would we like a new gas boiler instead
