Here in Spain I've concluded that working indicators are a fail at ITV (CT) time, along with a full complement of brake lights!
Personally I prefer it when Spanish drivers don't use indicators though s I think it's actually safer because most of the time when they do the vehicle goes in a totally different direction so I find it best to either ignore them completely or expect the opposite.
On the 'When in Rome' principal I have myself embraced the local habits.
My wife had a conversation with a Brit who is married to a Russian lady. She asked him what he thought about the Ukrainian situation and he answered that it was nothing like we were seeing and he was getting an accurate account from his wife who is speaking to her family. Note he also still defends Brexit
