Politeness doesn't seem to work with these people, obviously they use these foreign call centres for a financial benefit, but at a detriment to the quality of service to the account holder. I am afraid my short fuse is easily ignited when I am giving the same information to someone who is supposedly there to assist me, but does not have a clue as to the product involved. Shouting down the phone seems to get the conversation transferred up the line to someone I can understand, then I am calm again. But hey thanks for pointing out where I am going wrong

How do you get on with similar situations in France?

I have no experience of such incompetence arising in France, or in my communications with my French bank.
