France is no longer the peaceful country we once knew
As if the violence and destruction of the 17 October wasn't enough, the jilly joneses are planning another manif for the 24 October. And more are envisaged the following Saturdays. They're complaining about the rising cost of living ....

Where will this end ? The far left is encouraging the casseurs/black bloc to destroy and create anarchy. I was almost amused to see how ACAB (all coppers are bastards) was in evidence here in France. I first came across it some time ago with a young French victim/patient with the inevitable tattooed fingers ....
Heaven help any government who tried to change the constitution and make manifs illegal. Political suicide. And the jilly joneses are saying that Manu's speech last night was vacuous ... Apart from condemning the events on Saturday, he didn't give any answers as to how the problems could be dealt with - unsurprising really because no-one expected the destruction to go as far as it did.

My take on this is that those caught causing destruction are designated code H for hooligan by the tax office and will pay higher taxes for the rest of their life, also any benefits are stopped. The current losers will become worse criminals, but future asocial actors may have second thoughts before stepping in.

I have to agree with her, reading about what is going on back in UK, here in France, and the great bloody USA, etc.

On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Couldn't agree more. The tax part, yes sounds good, but I doubt many would do much real work anyway and they will never own any property. However, the removal of benefits, THAT ought to give them pause.

Of course all the other parties / "leaders" of movements are criticizing Macron and / or the government for not doing enough at any given time. Par for the course. None of them ever put forward their own solutions (if any) !
In the past, it was always a shrug and muttered 'it's the French way'.
This time, there's a feeling of shock amongst the natives, even from the most militent and an apparently genuine sentiment of loss (the hôtel de ville de Limoges is a local icon).
I think Jilly Jones should be registered if they want to demonstrate. If there's trouble, they can be requisitioned and made to clear up. A start at least.
I see the RAID has arrestest an oik for setting fire to the Limoges town hall. Looking at the arial photos this morning he can't have been alone - most of the roof has gone and it's a big building.

From the discours of PM Jacques Chaban-Delmas in September 1969, already a wake-up call, to Sophie Pedder in 2012. History lessons continued: Charles de Gaulle in 1958.
Let's not forget the OECD: not only in my drawer.
There ain't no cure for the French summertime forever blues I'm afraid.
Les Français sont-ils les "derniers enfants gâtés de l'Europe"?

I agree in principle but would it work ? It's the hooligan casseurs, who apparently are highly organised, who are causing the worst damage. Plus they are influencing susceptible youngsters. It's a horrible dilemma.

She's a stupid, bored woman / man who thinks it's fun to break shop windows or invite others to do so. Otherwise known as les gilets jaunes.
I remember during their last abomination (2019?), they blocked a road (while the gendarmes looked on) in Saint Junien where OH and I were going shopping. 2 of them stood in the middle of the road but I drove around them to access the shop we were going to. Jeers and shouts followed us; OH said 'Oh dear' while I gave the thumbs up to the gendarmes who lookeed on stony-faced.
