Working with French plaster

#1 Post by mysty »

You have to be fast or it sets.
If the sac says 20 minutes before it sets make sure you can mix it and use it in ten minutes.
If you don't believe me try it.
Or do as I do and mix it with plaster board glue MAP.

This wall had been crepied.

Get it reasonably smooth

Damp clean sponge and have clean water handy

For this type of thin layers I always use a Knauf product, Fix-and-Finish. Compared with Mysty's product more expensive. French plasters, I don't like them, too difficult for me. One exception: it must have been 15 years ago that I gave it a try with Lutèce 2000L. L is the slow version, the C type the quick drying one. A French plaster that came close to my preferred Knauf plasters. For thin layers I've used also a 50/50 mix of Goldband and MP75. The closer you get to the German border, the easier these Knauf products are available.

Closer to the way the old folks used to do it, and some still do, has been explained on this French website.

A mix between old and new here, where I repointed and replastered in 2005 with an "enduit à la chaux" where it was in a bad shape. And finished it with a layer of a special product made by Weber, Procalit F (ton pierre).

About the art of repointing a factsheet that could easily have been lost, but survived several forums.
