Operation Tranquilité

Has anybody used this crime prevention service? We are going to use it soon as our local Mairie’s has today told us of a break-in and robbery in the commune.

I don't know whether such a thing exists here but it could be a good idea.
It's always been able to contact the gendarmerie if going away though we've never done it. We don't go away much and when we do, we take as many precautions as possible. You can just as easily be burgled when you go shopping !

Our commune is going to install some cameras as much for possible rubbish dumping in the village as for crime prevention.

We've always been surprised at how casual (or careless ?) people can be, not locking their doors when they go out ("Oh, we've never locked our doors" ... ), leaving their cars unlocked even when in the garage, no trailer lock to at least put off a would-be thief ...
We kept our UK security habits even when we came to live in a rural area over 25 years ago.
A village just south of Saumur had most houses "visited" one night and stuff was stolen - this was about 20 years ago and everyone admitted they didn't bother to lock their back doors ....

I do this https://www.service-public.fr/particuli ... its/F34634, every time I go away.
It costs nothing, just a few minutes to complete.
It says that the gendarmes will pass the house during the period I am away, how often is not stated.

Funny story (or not).A few years back. We drove down our lane, on turning the corner, I spotted a folder on the verge. I thought it might be a kids school file or something, and we could return it.
No, turns out it was the gendames file stating which houses to look out for, the dates they were away and any items to check were still there! Basically a dossier for burglars.
OH took it back to the gendarmerie.
