Problem getting wood for the burner

In 47, a number of thefts of firewood have been reported. One close by to us involved a bit of a punch up between the thieves and the proprietaires.
We are now thinking about how we can secure our precious wood pile.
It is more vulnerable than previously because the parcel of vines beside us has been uprooted thus making the woodpile more visible and easily accessible from the road.
Options we are considering are
1. Resite the pile - will require a new structure to protect the wood and considerable effort by us old crocks to move it all.
2. Fence the boundary between us and the ex-vineyard - pricey
3. Close in the wood store - inconvenient and could run into planning probs and costly.
4. Security system
5. Combination of some of these
6. give up wood burner and rely on electric radiators

Sadly the dog option is not on the list. Our lovely dog died last year and after 25 years of dog owning I have decided I can’t go through the experience again.

Keeping your options open re heating - I would keep the wood burner and resite the wood pile - moving wood, in small doses, helps keep you fit.
Second option - still keep the woodie and pay for fencing between you and the ex-vinery. This option has less physical involvement on your part.

Cover the stack with an ex army camo net.
Rig up a wildlife camera pointing at where tealeaves would enter with a wagon to get pictures of the rats and their wagon to be able to report them to the blues.

Some years ago I had a feeling that someone might be taking an interest in my sheds in the garden. The easiest entry point to the garden is from a lane behind the house and up a steep 2 metre slope. I secured a length of fencing wire 6" above ground level at the top of the slope. Within a couple of weeks I found the wire detached (broken where it was secured to the house wall with a 10mm eye bolt. I wish I had seen the clown going arse over t*t when he tripped on the wire. The incident confirmed my fears so I bought a load of 25mm steel tube, etc. and made a set of jailhouse doors for the sheds and outbuilding. Since insurance companies almost never agree to insure against losses outside I made sure to weld lock shields in place to block any attempt to cut or beat the padlocks free.

I understand. We lost both of ours this year, aged 15½ and 14½ and we'd had them since they were pups. It's always devastating when they go, and the house is lifeless without them.
I haven't been without a dog for 40 years but we're giving ourselves a bit of time before we put out feelers for a couple of dogs needing a loving home.
