You can pay using wise by different methods. The amount you wish to transfer is also a factor. You can use the 'quick and easy method' method which incurs a debit card fee , and once you have set up your French bank account details you just pay by entering your card details. I use the open banking option which takes you straight into your uk bank to authorise the payment. It sounds complicated but it isn't . Most of the uk banks offer open banking as long as you have an online option like me -first direct in my case. it doesn't incur any fee other than their standard commission.

I can transfer from all my bank accounts (Swiss, French and UK) for free as Wise give you a local account in each jurisdiction. On-line transfer from a bank account gets the lowest charges/highest rate - cards are worse.
UK Bank transfer is instant, Swiss Bank takes an hour or two (provided before 13h00) and my French Bank is, well, as crap as French banks are - normally 24 hours although I see today it was only 7.5 hours.
