That, Biloute, is why some farmers go bankrupt : they're encouraged to "upgrade" then find they cannot keep up the payments necessary. Farming has always been good years and bad years and there's no doubt that climate change is having an effect on some sectors.
Round here farmers own parcels of land all over the place. They rip out all the hedges and trees and fill in the ditches to make one big section. They then pump chemicals into the land to get two crops a year and then expect to get sympathy when the ground floods and their crop is spoiled ?? The marais round here is almost devoid of wildlife, essential for our well-being. Those poor creatures that survive, hares and red-legged partridges, are then massacred by the local chasse. The number of birds and insects that come to visit our garden is a fraction of what it was when we first came to this area almost 9 years ago. I know this for sure because I spend a lot of time photographing them ... or these days, trying to find them.
By the way, I'm not anti farmers - my brother farms as do other members of my family and I spent some of my younger years working on a farm ..... I just despair of the practices of some of them today.

So Bayrou's got it, perhaps not unsurprisingly seeing he's been around forever .... plus he's as near to middle of the road as you can get.

Macron had summoned Bayrou this morning to tell him that he had chosen Lecornu as PM but that he would have an important position. But Bayrou told Macron that if he did not choose him as PM, his party the Modem would no longer support him... And Macron gave in to this blackmail !
At the moment, everyone is threatening everyone else. LFI has already said that they would censor Bayrou immediately. Le Pen said that she would censor him if he does not do what she wants. The PS said that no member of the PS would accept a ministerial position.
So Bayrou is condemned to do nothing until Macron leaves and at least until the next legislative elections...
However, France needs a budget very quickly and he will have to make a project of it very quickly as soon as his ministers are appointed.
On this point, Le Pen is already waiting for him in the corner !
What a basket of crabs !

Inevitable ! Bayrou is yet another politician who's had accusations of fraud hanging over him (acquitted in February) and was desperate to make PM. No doubt he'll still retain his position as Maire of Pau ...
It seems that yet gain every man is out for himself and the good of the country comes as an afterthought. Whoever Macron had chosen would have the same opposition from Le Pen who is unable to accept anyone who doesn't agree with her. Melenchon is no better. The Far Right tugging Far Left with Centrists stuck in the middle - it doesn't bode well for France. Bayrou has a rough ride ahead of him.

When Macron gathered the politicians of the Republican arc, that is to say everyone except the extremists, Marine Le Pen said: "These politicians only want to stay on the horse. Not to go anywhere: just to stay on the saddle despite the kicks. Their politics is a rodeo..."
It's quite true if we look at what's been happening for the last 30 years...

Maybe the best hope for France is another failure and a deteriorating economy, and all that goes with it.

That way the EU will appoint a technocrat who can fix things and ignore the politics. Like Italy and Greece.

It needs a fix from someone above it all.

Oh yes - it is easy when surrounded by the gnomes!

But then I think most French knows what needs to be done - they just want someone else to do it so it does not affect them.

I am not sure that we should let the ship sink in the hope that someone will bail it out... (the Titanic is still at the bottom of the sea)
As for the EU, I do not believe that those who created the problems are the best to solve them. Before the EU:
- we did not have as many problems with immigration and insecurity because we had borders
- we had sufficient and cheap electricity thanks to nuclear power
- we still had a flourishing industry
- we decided our laws and standards
- our debt was tiny and we only borrowed from the Bank of France without interest
- we could export and import what we wanted and on the terms that suited us
The "technocrats": our best humorist of all time, Coluche, said of them: "technocrats, you give them the Sahara and in a year, they have to import sand!"
I admit that what happened to Greece doesn't really make me dream... I would rather look towards Switzerland!
