Scam calls explosion

#1 Post by leclairon »

I thought marketing calls had almost been controlled. It went to almost zero at the end of last year.
Suddenly they have increased unbelievably. Does anybody know why? Today we have had 8 up to lunchtime and the same most days recently.

Ah, funny you should say that. Since New Year, we had up to 3 calls a day from 03, 04 and 09. The incoming call is displayed, then "call". We don't pick up and they have quietened down .... If you answer, they will know they've made a hit even if you hang up.

I have noticed more since NY as well. Some are allowed to continue until the end of March so they are probably packing them in now. As you say, ignore them

The new law also only allows these calls from numbers beginning 09 37, 09 38 and 09 39.

It may take a while for them to fall into line!

I wouldn't put any faith in anything the French gov does or says as it's usually their harebrained or dodgy schemes that are being pushed! Panasonic do a fixed phone that does block them. The KX TGH710 and KX TGH720 (cordless). Boulanger do the answerphone version of the 720 for €60. The only bémol is having to make sure you enter all your contacts' numbers, including any new, potential callers that you do want to hear from. Everything else is blocked. Bliss!

We sorted the problem at the outset when we had a landline installed in 2008. Liste Rouge from the outset and we never get any.

We've been Liste Rouge since we moved here though perhaps we don't get as many nuisance calls as some. We've always found if we ignore the calls, they give up.

Somewhat relieved to hear it is not just us. I had asked at PO about Liste Rouge long time ago. She said it was no longer. Bloctel useless. I didn't realise by picking up that encouraged them as I thought they came from different people. Will just let them ring from now on. I was getting perverse pleasure from blowing a foghorn down the spout but it's annoying when the phone rings, sometimes again as soon as the one has finished. Some of the numbers look normal, i.e. starting 02 which are our local landline numbers.
