Funny but locally and on sites like Windfinder, they're not forecasting anything exceptional ! That said, we don't generally get this sort of weather in August !

Slight correction Blaze.
Remember
Fastnet race disaster
Remnants of Hurricane Charlie - I was camping that weekend and a local met. station at Blea Moor signal box recorded 102mph wind speed.

Noted @exile - of course there are always exceptions.
Re Fastnet, I remember it only too well having members of the family who were sailing in it .... and this year's Fastnet had a bumpy start too.
Fortunately this doesn't happen every year. Generally August isn't bad here.
That said, we're moving stuff out of harm's way.

Yes, this sort of weather is unusual at this time of year but in Tagh's link, the video shown of Saint Malo is quite normal out of the summer months during a grand marée. It's very spectacular and tourists flock to see it.
Human nature being what it is, people can be amazingly stupid and will go for a swim, sail or paddle board despite severe weather warnings. Last year an ado walked along the parapet of a sea wall where the video was taken and was washed away. He didn't survive. This sort of thing happens every year here. The Mairie/Police in Saint Malo organise precautions such blocking off certain areas that could be dangerous and using sandbags. Just like going under the "no entry" tape on mountains to ski off piste, people will ignore warnings. They whinge about not being allowed access to certain areas then complain that not enough is being done to prevent the drownings that happen every year.
Yesterday was very windy and today it's tipping down - more like October than August, but nothing dramatic. If I didn't have a medical appointment in Rennes today, we certainly wouldn't go out but at least the wind has dropped. According to the news last night, it was worse on the west coast ...

My garden suffered more wind damage yesterday than it has ever suffered before. The winds were exceptional. I will be going over to the coast later in the week, I hope to find that my boat has faired better.
