I have recently learned that there is a new French 3rd person singular personal pronoun.

We now have il, elle, on and ...... iel (pronounced eeyell).

Were all of you aware of this new réveillé term?

What is the plural of "iel" ? Perhaps "they" haven't worked that one out yet ....

In English, I would use "it" but there isn't the equivalent in French. I don't know anyone here who would use "iel" ....

I assume the plural must be iels.

It makes me wonder if more politically acceptable neutral nouns will also be introduced so as to avoid the use of gender specific nouns such as son and daughter or niece and nephew.

Good point Veem ! Don't forget mother and father !!
It will soon be considered unpolitically correct to refer to a ship as female as in "God bless her and all who sail in her". And whaling ships' ... "There she blows"

What is the world coming to ? Whilst languages evolve, it's generally slowly and through common usage though some countries update their language from time to time to simplify them. It's a shame a tiny majority are trying to force the vast majority into making such ridiculous changes.
Look at how badly many children write in French today : why complicate it even further ? Ot is it bad teaching ?

The Germans have "das Mädchen" but in spite of the neuter definite article, it doesn't change the fact that "Mädchen" still means "girl", which as far as I know, is still feminine/female !!!
Some languages like Japanese and Polish have a different way of speaking depending on whether it's to a man or a woman. How will the woke brigade manage that ?
