I know I asked about this before but I can't find any thread here. I want to ntransfer some dosh from a UK bank to Créd. Ag. at a reasonable rate. I have a Wise account that I've never been able to activate, so I'm looking for summat else. Something that doessn't take a wet week to register with!

Well persevere with Wise if you can - not sure I had to activate mine - I use them to transfer between 3 countries and on a €2K transfer they give €50 more than Credit Mutuelle rates.

As has been said I would persevere with Wise, as you are 1/2 way there and they are excellent, I have used them v regularly for years.MAD87 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 11:21 am I know I asked about this before but I can't find any thread here. What seems to be stopping you from activating ? Send a message if your answer involves personal stuff.

Ok. I had another go with Wise (18 months or so after opening the account...). It believes that everyone has a smartphone that can scan QR codes and upload selfies to them. I do have a s-phone, but it's configured for nowt except phone calls and texts.
I'm thinking now that maybe just ringing the English bank to arrange a transfer would be easier.

Maybe that has something to do with French Banking rules - as I did not have to do that.
But looking at settings on my account I cannot see any of this - and I certainly did not have to faff around with ID cards, selfies, apps or anything else.

Ask them if you can complete the i.d. confirmation the old-fashioned way using your computer and scanner ..
Would they accept a WhatsApp video call ?
Edit .. no not WhatsApp. Since Zuckerberg took control it's going the way of FarceBook.
Signal video is more secure.

Thank you both - I'll do that over the weekend and get my DIL to show me afterwards how to bring the s-phone up to spec.

This general bullying people into using smartphones for everything is getting tiresome, and it would appear expensive as well. Anyone else noticed how most of the so-called Black Friday deals are for phones? Costing anything up to over a thousand euros a pop, they expect us to dump them as soon as the next model comes on the market, often only 18 months later.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.
